Introduction
'Discolour patches' is a set of patches that modify the extension 'Discolour' by Andrew Welch/Ambrosia Software, Inc.
Discolour makes the Finder display floppy disc icons in colour instead of black and white. The 'Discolour patches' make modified copies of the Discolour extension which display colour icons for CD's, PC disks (MS-DOS format) and shared disks. A new floppy disc icon patch is also included.
Instructions
You will need an unmodified copy of 'Discolour' to use these patches (see URL's below). You will also need a utility that lets you change the 'file creator' attribute, such as ResEdit or Snitch.
For each patch,
1. Open the patch application and read the instructions that appear. Click on Patch when you are ready.
2. Locate the original copy of Discolour and click on the Patch button. Once the patch has completed, you will return to the Finder.
3. Change the creator type for the new extension, as follows:
For CD Discolour: CCdr
For PC Discolour: CPdr
For Shared Discolour: CSdr
(You do not need to change the creator type for the 'New Discolour' extension)
4. Drop the new extension onto the system folder (you will be told that "Extensions need to be placed in the Extensions folder" - click on OK).
You will need to reboot your computer for the new extensions to work.
If you want the extensions to display the correct Finder icons, you will need to rebuild your desktop.
Important
Do not attempt to change the creator type for the extensions when they are in use - doing so may cause your computer to crash.
